Homeless Individuals at Volunteers of America Chesapeake’s Bailey’s Crossroads Community Shelter Receive Generous Gift and Visit from Molina Healthcare

Molina Healthcare, which manages the Fairfax County Community Health Care Network (CHCN) clinics, donated $1,000 to Volunteers of America Chesapeake’s Bailey’s Crossroads Community Shelter in Falls Church, Va.  The donation, which went to purchase new patio furniture and a new grill for the homeless facility, is part of Molina Healthcare’s quarterly charitable contributions benefitting a local community-based organization.

In honor of the donation and to provide a special day for residents, a barbeque was held at Volunteers of America Chesapeake’s Bailey’s Crossroads Community Shelter on Friday, Feb. 18, where the residents of the Center enjoyed amazing food prepared by approximately 25 Molina Healthcare employees.

“People and organizations who give their time and money to be a part of our clients’ lives make an enormous difference in lifting the spirits of our homeless men and women,” explained Tom Nichols, program director at Volunteers of America Chesapeake’s Bailey’s Crossroads Community Shelter. "Special events such as thisare very important to the clients since it gives them an opportunity to step away from their very pressing life issues, relax and interact with volunteers in a more lighthearted atmosphere. ."

“A little can go a long way in tough times like these, which is why we are pleased to be able to donate funds so that Volunteers of America Chesapeake’s Bailey’s Crossroads Community Shelter can buy essential items,” said Jean Glossa, MD, medical director of the CHCN clinics for Molina Healthcare. “We’re excited about partnering with Bailey’s Crossroads Community Shelter, where many of our patients are living at this time. Volunteers of America Chesapeake does a wonderful job in providing services that these individuals need to get back on their feet and it is our pleasure to work with them on this project.”

Volunteers of America Chesapeake’s Bailey’s Crossroads Community Shelter is an emergency homeless shelter for adult men and women providing several different services including: medical care, mental health services, substance abuse counseling, education and training for homeless individuals. During the winter months, from Nov. 1 to March 31, the center is also home to a Hypothermia Program.
