Doug Parks and The Lonewolves Kicked Off First Friday

Falls Church residents were treated to live music, free barbecue, artwork, antique automobiles and more at First Friday. The year round event was started by Tom Gittins, the owner of .

“Artists came in looking for a place to show their artwork so we created First Friday,” said Gittins. “So we figured we would have art, food, and music outside so people can come enjoy themselves, and the rest is history.”

Famous Dave’s BBQ, which is opening up a Falls Church location this month, was on hand with their mascot and free ribs for everyone in attendance.  Parents and children of all ages roamed the parking lot of Art and Frame checking out the various vendors that included Allison Lange Photography and Always There Petcare.

There were also local artists outside displaying their unique paintings and drawings.

Doug Parks and The Lone Wolves entertained the crowd with his guitar heavy brand of blues.

“My name is Doug Parks and I’m from right here in Falls Church, the blues capital of the world,” said Parks in between songs. “Great food, art exhibits, and just look at those cars, this is a great monthly event for ya’ll.”

In addition to the Art and Frame event, there were musical performances and restaurant specials all around town including , , and .

“What could be better than a live band and free food on a Friday night,” said Mary Barkes, a Falls Church resident who came to First Friday with her kids. “Its great, the band is wonderful and Dave’s Barbecue is good.”

This was the first installment of the First Friday series, which will be held on the first Friday of each month. The next two months will be outside and they will move the event indoors once the cold weather months come around.

“Art and Frame Falls Church, , Curves and other various restaurants in Falls Church are all participating,” said Gittins.
