Elderly Falls Church Couple Killed in Car Crash

Harry Emlet, 83, and his wife Elinor Emlet, 85, were killed when their car was struck by a pickup truck at Arlington Boulevard and Patrick Henry Drive.

Police are investigating a collision that killed an elderly Falls Church couple Sunday on Arlington Boulevard near the intersection of Patrick Henry Drive.

Harry Emlet, 83, and his wife Elinor, 85, were struck by a pickup driven by Felipe Ananibar Rocha, 41, of Rockville, Md., Sunday around 3:45 p.m., police said.

Mr. and Mrs. Emlet died from injuries suffered during the crash. Rocha suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was released from Inova Fairfax Hospital.

According to Fairfax County Police, Mr. Emlet was making a left turn on the green light onto a service road to a store parking lot. His wife was a passenger in their 1993 Nissan Sentra. Their vehicle failed to yield to oncoming traffic and was struck on the passenger side by the pickup traveling, which was westbound on Arlington Boulevard. Both drivers and the passenger were taken to Inova Fairfax to where the couple was pronounced dead.

Detectives from the Crash Reconstruction Unit are continuing their investigation and have not yet placed charges.

Very sad, and I hope this means there will also be an investigation that would recommend ways to make this intersection/traffic safer, which is little consolation to the Emlet family.
