If you have late fines at the Mary Riley Styles Public Library, you can get rid of them with a food donation.
Between Dec. 10 and 16, patrons can donate one non-perishable for each fine. Officials say there is no limit on the outstanding fines patrons can have erased by their donation.
“Between 700 and 900 items are usually donated annually,” Library Director Mary McMahon said.
The program has been in existence since 1999. Bills for lost or damaged library materials cannot be paid by this program. Food collected in the duration of the program will be donated to the city’s Housing and Human Services Department, which provides aid to families in the community.
Foods in glass jars, damaged cans or opened containers will not be accepted.
For more information on the program, contact the library at (703) 248-5030 or visit www.fallschurchva.gov/Library.
