6 a.m. – Police continue to negotiate with a man barricaded inside a City of Falls Church home.
Hillwood Avenue is closed from Cherry Street to S. Roosevelt Street (almost half a mile) due to this police activity.
The closure is not expected to clear before morning rush hour.
Police are not releasing information on the man inside, but WTOP reported he is alone in the home and is alive. Police from Falls Church have been on the scene since 4:30 p.m. Monday and are being assisted by Fairfax County and Arlington police. A SWAT team also is in the area.
Hillwood Avenue is located just one block south of Route 7/East Broad Street. The normally-quiet neighborhood contains single family homes on a tree-lined street about one mile southeast of the Falls Church Government Center.
10:24 p.m. Monday - City of Falls Church and Fairfax County Police and SWAT teams are taking action to peacefully remove a man from a home in the 600 block of Hillwood Avenue in Falls Church.
Police have been on the scene since 4:30 p.m. They are now using a substance that will make it "uncomfortable" for the man to remain inside the home, according to Falls Church Police spokesperson Susan Finarelli.
Police said earlier tonight that shots have been fired inside the house, but it is not clear what the man was shooting. No one has been injured, police told Patch.
Police are asking residents in the area to remain inside their homes.
