No Small Flavor for These Shrimp

Spicy jumbo prawns sure to kick up any football party.

Hello everyone and welcome to the first of two football party inspired Andre Taylor's Tasty Tidbits for this week!

Now a lot of people know I played football in high school and collegiately and I have always been a fan of the sport! This time of year for me always means great finger foods, watch parties and if my favorite teams don't win their bowl or playoff game, a lot of tears.

Today, I want to share my recipe for spicy deep-fried jumbo prawns. Here what you will need:

4 pounds of peeled jumbo prawns

3 eggs

1 cup of flour

1 cup of corn meal

3 tablespoons of season salt

2 tablespoons of cayenne pepper

2 tablespoons of hot sauce

The first thing you want to do is make sure you have a big pot to heat your oil in. I personally like to use vegetable oil but you can shortening or peanut oil if you wish.

Once you have your oil in the pot, make sure you turn the flame to a medium setting and let the oil heat. Let that go on until you hear subtle popping come from the pot.

In a bag (a Ziploc bag or a brown paper bag), mix the flour, corn meal, season salt and cayenne pepper.

In a bowl, crack the three eggs and add the hot sauce and beat them together.

Once you have your spicy egg wash made, start dipping the peeled prawns in it and then put them into the bag with the flour and corn meal and shake them until each of the prawns is evenly coated.

One at a time, drop the prawns into the hot grease and let them cook until they are golden brown and floating to the top of the oil.

Once they are done, take them out and place them onto a plate covered with paper towel to drain the oil.

You want to serve them up warm but not too warm that you burn your mouth.

These make for a great football party dish.

Let me know if you try this dish or if you want to share one of your favorite football party dishes with me, send them along to andre.taylor@patch.com.

Until then, keep on cheering and most importantly, keep on burnin'!
