SPEAK OUT: Should the Redskins Acquire Peyton Manning?

Who would you rather see in the burgundy and gold, Manning or RG3?

After 14-seasons with the Indianapolis Colts, Peyton Manning was released and is a free agent.

The Washington Redskins are planning to make an aggressive effort in bringing Manning to the DMV, according to the Washington Post.

The Post also reported that it’s unclear if the Redskins will try to make a push to draft Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III in April.

Colts owner Jim Irsay did not want to pay Manning a $28 million bonus that was about to come due because he does not believe the player can fully come back from his third neck procedure in 19 months, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The Redskins along with Arizona Cardinals, Miami Dolphins, Tennessee Titans, and the New York Jets all have been rumored as possible destinations for Manning, according to Cincinnatti.com.

Manning, a four-time NFL Most Valuable Player award winner has questions over his surgically repaired neck and throwing strength, according to Bloomberg. Manning had at least three operations on his neck over the last two years, according to Bloomberg.

I believe Peyton Manning is a great athlete and a great competitor, but when it comes to quality of life, I think he should just shut it down. When you are dealing with neck issues, that's a lot different from an ankle or hand. This is something that could really effect your play and quality of life. I'm a huge EAGLES fan, but I wouldn't want to see Peyton go to the Skins' and get hurt. What are your thoughts?

Man, this is not a tough call for me. Manning's injuries are a red flag. He's getting older, and the Redskins should try to get better than aging superstars. Remember that rough 2010 season with Donovan McNabb at the helm?

I'm just concerned about his quality of life. What else does he have to prove? He's been a league mvp and won a Super Bowl. But I'm certain the Redskins will find a way to give him $45 million only to see him not do well in the Shanahan system. It's the Redskin way to pay millions and get minimum results. We'll see what happens in the days to come.

This is a tough call because the team has been burned bringing in QB's near the end of their career. I'm in love with RG3 and think he's a big time talent that could solve our QB issues for the next decade or so. No matter which way the team goes I hope Shanny and Son get it right!

I agree that the Skins' have a history of bringing in guys at the end of their career, but this is different. He's injured his neck and that could come back and bite whoever picks him up. Great athlete, just at the point he needs to think retirement. As for RG3, he's a stud but who do the Skins' have to block for him? It's a lost cause to bring him in. They should draft defense and offensive line and pick up another QB in free agency.

Not a lot to choose from in free agency. I agree the team has some holes, but the O-Line played better as the season went along and the running game did as well.. The defense improved from #31 to #13 last season, but when your QB throws 20 INT's and losses 5 fumbles in only 13 games like Grossman did you can't win in the NFL. We need to continue building our lines b/c that's where it all starts for a team. I don't want to see Manning get hurt, but I don't think he'd put himself in harms way without fully understanding the deal with his neck. In all honesty I think the best place for him if he does play again is Arizona. The Redskins have $40 mill in cap space, don't ask me how but they do and with smart free agent signings and another decent draft class maybe we can start to sniff around a ...........I won't even say it b/c I know what our luck has been recently! What do you think about the Eagles franchising Jackson?

This is a no brainer! Despite the fact I'm a lifelong Eagles fan Manning should have the 'Skins phone # on "call block!" Manning has always been in complete control of his offense and I can't see him submitting to Kyle Shanahan's "anyone can fit my scheme" offense. And let's not forget the "matador style" blocking of the past few seasons. Manning moves nowhere near as well as McNabb, Grossman, Beck, or Campbell. He'd be on IR after 5 games. Run Peyton, run as far away from DC as you can get!

Chuck I agree with you on the fact of letting Peyton be Peyton and do his thing or don't bring him in and try to change him. It won't work no matter where he goes if someone tries to change what he does or make him learn a whole new offense.

I disagree with you on how bad the Redskins O-Line is and I'll explain why:
The line gave up 41 QB sacks in 2011 which is the same as the Green Bay Packers

The following teams gave up more than we did in 2011:
San Fransisco 49ers (44) Allowed
Denver Broncos (42)
Pittsburgh Steelers (42)
Arizona Cardinals (54)
Miami Dolphins (52)
Seattle Seahawks (50)
There's more teams I could list, but most of the ones I listed made the NFL Playoffs last season. The Redskins still need to improve along the line b/c 41 sacks is still to many to give up. The line had some injuries last season but finished the year out playing better. More evidence is RB Evan Royster who averaged 5.9 yards a carry and finished the season with 328 yards on 56 attempts. His longest run was 28 yards so it's not like he padded his #'s with some long runs. He didn't start playing until week 15. The defense finished #13 overall and improved our pass rush. Bad QB play is why we didn't win more games b/c our inept QB's combined to throw 24 Int's and lose 6 fumbles. You can't win at any level with that type of play at the QB position. The team is not as far away as most people think. We have holes, but the #1 thing is getting improved play from the QB position.

Chuck, you're alright in my book! Always a pleasure to meet fellow Eagles fans (not on the wagon, I was born and raised in Philly). I agree Manning shouldn't come to DC, but I'm one who believes he should hang up the clears.

While I think Peyton is a class act and a very talented athlete. I think he needs to seriously think about his health and his family. I'm sure he has the competitive fire burning within, but after all those surgeries, I would be concerned about a hit to that area which could lead to something far worse for him.

The Redskins need a QB but they also need quality receivers and quality corners as well. I'm all about rebuilding and if it takes time so be it. Hell, we haven't done much since Danny Boy took over.

This can't be Shanahan wanting Manning. This has the "shiny new object syndrome" of Snyder.

Manning's already told the Redskins he's not coming here so we can forget about him as an option here in D.C.

RG3 would be nice, but he's not worth sacrificing our entire draft, plus some of next year's, to trade up to the number two pick. i honestly think bringing in manning, which would almost guarantee also bringing in reggie wayne, pierre garcon, jeff saturday, and pretty much every other talented colt left on their roster, would make the redskins a contender. he did say he doesn't want to play here though, so i think that ship has sailed. that being said, we have needs pretty much everywhere, so i think our best option is to draft the best non-QB/RB available - could be justin blackmon or morris claiborne - and stick with rex grossman again this year. then next year, assuming we're at the top of the draft again, we make a play for matt barkley, or possibly landry jones, although i'm not sold on jones the way i am on barkley.
