Mary Ann Gardner has been identified as the second victim of a Falls Church house fire that also killed her mother, Laura Snyder-Gardner, early Wednesday morning.
Snyder-Gardner was a faculty member at Gallaudet. Fairfax County Fire and Rescue identified Snyder-Gardner Thursday. The fire is still under investigation and no cause for the fire has been determined.
A memorial for the mother and daughter will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the Elstad Auditorium at Gallaudet, Luna said. The family has requested people attending the service wear pink and yellow to honor the mother and daughter because they both loved bright colors and were very fond of pink and yellow.
Firefighters were called to the 3100 block of Manor Rd. around 3:20 a.m. Wednesday. The entire single-level ranch-style home was completely engulfed when crews arrived.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Laura Snyder-Gardner and Mary Ann Gardner Scholarship Fund. Go to giving.gallaudet.edu/gardnerfund to donate online. To send a check, please note "Gardner Fund" in the memo section and make the check payable to Gallaudet University and mail to the Office of Development, Gallaudet University, 800 Florida Ave., NE, Washington, D.C. 20002.
