New school supplies are needed for middle and high school students. The city’s Department of Housing and Human Services is accepting donations through Aug. 23. Supplies needed include gift cards to Staples, Giant and CVS, backpacks, spiral notebooks, Post-It notes, pens, markers and highlighters (no pencils or crayons needed.) Drop them off at HHS, 300 Park Ave., Room G04 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The first in a series of rape aggression defense (RAD) courses is offered by the City of Falls Church Police Department Aug. 15. The remaining required courses are held on Aug. 16, 20 and 22. All classes are from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Columbia Baptist Church, 103 W. Columbia St. The RAD system is a women-only course. To register, email email@example.com or call 703-248-5061.
Preschool story hour at the public library is held at 10:30 a.m. followed by a simple craft. The event is designed for children ages 18 months through five years accompanied by a parent or caregiver. The Mary Riley Styles public library is located at 120 N. Virginia Ave. in Falls Church.
Catch the musical I Do! I Do!, which is winding up its run at Gunston Arts Center, 2700 S. Lang St. in Arlington. The musical by American Century Theater shows at 8 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and wraps up Saturday with shows at 2:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.
