Friday: Helicopters, Harmonizers and County Fair

TGIF Falls Church! You made it. Now it's time for a little fun and R&R. What are you up to today? Here are a few ideas from around the region:

Helicopter Festival at Air & Space Museum in Chantilly.

Barbershop chorus. The Alexandria Harmonizers perform in Market Square in front of Alexandria’s City Hall from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Free.

Pick up some flowers, crafts, baked goods and more at the new market in Hollin Hall beginning at noon. The market is located at 1909 Windmill Lane at Mount Vernon Unitarian Church near Fort Hunt Road and Sherwood Hall Lane. Free.

The 2013 Arlington County Fair opened Wednesday, with outdoor rides, food vendors and piglet races the main draws on its first night. The fair is held at and around the Thomas Jefferson Community Center at 3501 Second St. S. and runs through Sunday.

It’s Reggae Night at Carter Barron Amphitheatre featuring bands the Archives, Image Band and Strykers Posse. The park gates open at 7 p.m. and the show begins at 7:30 p.m. Free. Carter Barron is located at 16th Street and Colorado Avenue, NW, Washington, DC. For more information, call 202-426-0486.

Art Walk in the Park at Glen Echo Park in Maryland. Enjoy open studios, artist demonstrations including glass-blowing and silversmithing, refreshments and more from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The Yellow Barn Studio is offering an open studio session on drawing and painting from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the park for a $30 fee. The art walk is free.

Poet and actress Jill Scott will converse with Johnnetta Betsch Cole, the director of the National Museum of African Art, about her career and other things. The event will be held at the National Museum of the American Indian’s Rasmuson Theater from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. General admission is $30.
