Construction on Luria Park Boardwalk to Begin This Fall

The Fairfax County Park Authority says renovations will begin within the next month.

The Fairfax County Park Authority will soon begin construction of the Luria Park Boardwalk Renovations Project.

According to the Park Authority, the renovations are occurring after the public expressed interest in revamping the boardwalk at recent public hearings. This project includes significant improvements to the existing boardwalk structure in Luria Park and Holmes Run Stream Valley Park, including the demolition of approximately 80’ of existing boardwalk and the construction of one new prefabricated steel pedestrian bridge crossing and associated connecting boardwalk. The project will be funded by the 2008 Park Bond, which will provide funding in the amount of $196,000. The project is expected to be completed before the end of the year.

Construction access to the site will be from the park entrance on Holmes Run Drive and parking restrictions near that entrance are anticipated in order to facilitate the passage of construction materials and equipment, according to the Park Authority. In addition, construction equipment will be present on the trail in Luria Park during construction. As a safety precaution, portions of the existing trail and the boardwalk will be closed to users during the project. Pedestrians are advised to utilize the Camp Alger Avenue trail and stream crossing to the north.
