Dial 211 for Hurricane Sandy Storm Assistance

For non-life threatening assistance, dial 211 to find storm resources.

Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C. residents can call 211 to find storm services or resources for themselves and neighbors.

"To find the services or resources they need, residents can simply dial 211 from any phone to reach a specialist, or visit www.211metrodc.org for online assistance," said a news release from The United Way. 

For life-threatening emergencies, call 911. The 211 line will provide information for "vital services."

"Operators can help callers find basic services and support including food, clothing, shelter and more by connecting them with organizations that provide help in times of disaster or emergency, as well as offering year-round assistance connecting residents to health and human services programs," said a news release from United Way. 

According to the United Way, the 211 Metro DC Combined Database project is funded by a Department of Homeland Security Urban Area Security Initiative grant.  It operates under the leadership and fiscal management of United Way of the National Capital Area.
