Falls Church Police Looking to Restart Crime Solvers

City hasn't used program in some time and wants to rejuvenate Crime Solvers.

It’s been some years since the City of Falls Church police have used Crime Solvers, but plans to bring back the program are on the way.

Thursday, Officer James Brooks said the agency is looking to recruit a new board to run the Crime Solvers service in the city. He said a board would be responsible for developing guidelines and policies on how people would be paid for divulging information leading to an arrest or prosecution. Callers would be kept anonymous.

“There’s no board right now,” said Brooks, community resource officer for the department. “Once I have more interest we’ll see how it will go. It may be an executive board and a board of governors.”

Having Crime Solvers would give city police another tool to help cut down on crime and close cases. Brooks said people could call into Crime Solvers with tips about suspicious criminal activity in their community.

“I consider criminals to be like salesmen,” Brooks said. “They’ll go for the low hanging fruit.”
