UPDATE: FCPS, FCCPS Make Weather Announcement for Wednesday

Dangerously cold temperatures and lingering snow and ice impact the school day Wednesday. Here's how to find out.

The icy, snowy weather isn't over.

It looks like Falls Church and Fairfax County are in for more snow closures and delays for Wednesday, Jan. 22. Though snow is expected to end by 11 p.m. Tuesday, temperatures and wind chills are expected to dip below zero, extending into early morning.

SCHOOLS

  • Due to poor road conditions/frigid temps Falls Church City Public Schools and Day Care will be closed for students/staff Wed., Jan. 22, FCCPS announced late Tuesday night.
  • Fairfax County Public Schools will be closed again Wednesday, Jan. 22. As of now, school and administrative offices will open at noon.
  • School Age Child Care Centers (SACC) are also closed Wednesday.

As this marks the fifth canceled school day this year due to inclement weather, the school district now has to implement makeup days.
---
As snow continued to pour in Northern Virginia on Tuesday afternoon, parents and students began wondering whether the storm would impact class schedules Wednesday, Jan. 22.

Remaining snow may not be the only issue for students. The current forecast for Wednesday morning in Falls Church and Fairfax suggests very cold temperatures as students are expected to begin the trip to school. The temperature could be 5 degrees, but a wind chill will make it feel like -14 degrees.
