UPDATE, Thursday, 7:20 a.m.: About two-thirds of the homes that were without power Wednesday night have their power back on Thursday morning in Falls Church. The area saw high winds knock out power Wednesday night, turning the lights out to about 1,000 homes.

It appears, from a Dominion Power outage map, that about 300 homes in Falls Church are still without power. There are two clusters of outages, located near Broad Street — one with more than 200 homes/businesses and another with 97; a message on the outage map says power will be restored Thursday between 5-11 p.m. Current temperature in Falls Church is 25 degrees with a wind chill of 15 degrees.

High winds that likely downed trees, knocked out power Wednesday night to about a thousand homes in Falls Church. The area is under a Wind Advisory from the National Weather Service with gusts forecast up to 50 MPH.

Dominion Power outage map, after midnight., showed Falls Church riddled with clusters of outages, that looked to be about a thousand homes; the largest dot showed more than 500 homes out of power in one area.

In all Wednesday night, 34,111 homes in Fairfax County were without power, 42,876 in Northern Virginia in all, just before midnight Wednesday.

The estimated time the power would be back on in Falls Church was not available on the Dominion site. The problems cited for the outage ranged from "storm," to "pending investigation."

The National Weather Service issued the Wind Advisory that started Wednesday at 6 p.m. and is expected to be lifted by Thursday at 11 a.m. Northern Virginia is seeing a huge dip in temperatures. Wednesday's highs were near 70 degrees. The high Thursday is expected to be 36 degrees.
