New Parking Garage at Dunn Loring Metro Station Opens Monday

The Dunn Loring Metro parking garage is part of a project resulting in a 50 percent increase in parking capacity at the station.

A new parking garage at the Dunn Loring Metro Station is scheduled to open to customers on Monday morning.

The 1400-space parking garage will replace the station’s existing surface lot, according to Metro. The new parking garage was constructed by Mill Creek Residential as part of a joint improvement project and will be operated by Metro.

The existing surface parking lot will be the site for the second phase of the garage, which Metro says will increase parking capacity by 700 spaces. The lot will permanently close at the end of the service day on Sunday. Phase II of the garage is expected to be completed in late 2014.

“The new garage is a welcome enhancement for Dunn Loring customers, who will now benefit from weather-protected parking, improved lighting and high-definition security cameras,”  Metro’s Director of Parking Patrick Schmitt said in a press release issued Tuesday. “We look forward to the second phase of the project which, when complete, will result in a 50 percent increase in parking capacity at the station.”

Traffic patterns will be reconfigured to accommodate the opening of the new garage.  Motorists should follow new signage and variable message boards. Rates at the new garage will remain the same. Parking costs $4.75 on weekdays and is free on weekends.
