Pack Your Patience: Lots of Major Lane Closings This Week

Overnight Lane Closings on Beltway, Dulles Access Road

I-495  (Beltway) North Lane Closures at Route 123 Continue  
Multiple lane closures on northbound I-495 at Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road/Dolley Madison Boulevard) are set to continue next week as subway  crews construct the tracks over the Capital Beltway. The three right thru lanes will be closed Wednesday, June 15 through Thursday, June 16, from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.
 
 Lanes will begin to taper down near the Route 7 (Leesburg Pike). The two left lanes will be closed in both directions Friday, June 17, from 10:30 p.m. to 7 a.m.
 
All ramps to and from Route 123 will remain open. Motorists should exert extreme caution and expect delays if passing through this area. Police will be onsite to direct traffic.

Two left lanes close Friday night for span work.
 
Closed:  Eastbound Dulles Airport Access Highway  Near Route 7 Continue Monday Night; Detour on to Westbound Lane  
The eastbound lanes of the Dulles  Airport Access Highway  will be closed overnight Monday, June 13, from approximately 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
 
The closing is necessary because rail construction crews will be working on a large concrete structure that will straddle two piers on each side of the eastbound Airport Access Highway. The exit to Route 7 (Leesburg Pike) will remain open. This work is expected to occur intermittently as needed through the end of July.

Leesburg Pike (Route 7) west from Westpark Dr. to Spring Hill Rd.

Two lanes closed Monday - Friday nights for utility work. Expect intermittent road closures of up to 15 minutes after midnight.

Leesburg Pike (Route 7) east from Dulles Toll Road (Route 267) to Westwood Center Dr.

Two lanes closed Monday - Saturday nights for paving.

Leesburg Pike (Route 7) east from Spring Hill Rd. to Gosnell Rd.

Right lane closed Monday - Friday nights for ground work.
 
Eastbound Tysons Boulevard Closures between Galleria Drive and Route 123 Resume  
The eastbound lanes of Tysons Boulevard will be closed near Galleria Drive to Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road) from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday, June 13 through Friday, June 17, for pier and station work.

REMINDER: Flagging Operation at Magarity/Olney Intersection Continues  
Flaggers will be directing thru traffic at the Magarity Road/Olney Road intersection in the Pimmit Hills neighborhood as crews continue restoration of the curb line and gutter, and installation of a new storm drainage pipe.
 
This work will reduce thru traffic to one lane on each road from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday, June 13 through Thursday, June 16, and 9:30 a.m. to noon on Friday, June 17.
 
Private entrances and driveways will be accessible at all times. Signage will be installed warning drivers that the flaggers and one-lane traffic are ahead. Drivers are urged to use extreme caution when traveling through this intersection.

ADDITIONAL TRAFFIC SHIFTS

  • Leesburg Pike (Route 7) east at I-495: On or about June 12, the eastbound lanes of traffic on Route 7 will shift to the right to a new bridge span over I-495. Motorists should expect overnight delays approaching the interchange as crews make final preparations for the shift. Once all traffic is shifted, night work will begin to demolish the old center bridge span of Route 7.  Motorists should expect overnight lane closures and detours on Route 7 and in both directions on I-495 starting around 9:30 p.m. each night.  Demolition work is expected to continue through mid-July, weather permitting.

I-495 south from Route 7 to W&OD Trail: On Sunday night, June 12, all four lanes of I-495 south, Outer Loop, will shift to the right near Route 7 to the W&OD Trail Overpass. To prepare for the traffic shift, three right lanes on I-495 south near Route 7 to the W&OD Trail will be closed Sunday night, June 12 at 9:30 p.m. until 9 a.m. After midnight, all lanes on I-495 south in this area will close for up to 30 minutes at a time to complete the traffic shift. Traffic shift work is weather permitting.
