Snow in the Forecast? Potential for Falls Church Seeing a 'Wintry Mix'

Weather forecasters are predicting a possibility that could impact traffic.

With a chance of rain and snow possible for the Tuesday morning rush hour, Falls Church could be in for some winter weather.

The National Weather Service has forecast a 30 percent chance of showers after 3 a.m. Tuesday, which could mix with snow after 5 a.m. The Capital Weather Gang gives the area a 40 percent chance, especially west and northwest of DC.

That mix could last through the morning, with the chance of snow flurries between 9 a.m. and noon. Tuesday should gradually become mostly sunny with a high near 41. Little or no snow accumulation is expected.

Although it's not likely going to be needed, Falls Church has a plan in place for dealing with slick or snowy roads:

The Department of Public Works is responsible for snow removal in the City right of way. Snow emergency routes receive first priority for salting, sanding, and plowing. Upon completion of clearing these routes, City crews will clear all other streets.

Clearing snow from driveways and entrances is the responsibility of the resident. Plow operators focus on clearing streets. They do not have control over the snow coming off the edge of the blade, and their plows cannot be adjusted for the sharp turns required to clear driveways.

Residents should be prepared and stay informed.
