Snow Timeline for Tuesday in Northern Virginia

An expected light snow Tuesday that many thought would be a slight dusting has turned out to be more than that, surprising many with its intensity across Northern Virginia.
Expect to continue to see snow falling Tuesday until about 2 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.
The "light dusting" that was expected has stuck on roads, cars and grass and is still coming down Tuesday. Kevin Witt, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Sterling, says residents can expect to see continued snow flurries for the next three hours until about 2 p.m.
"Yes, we knew there was going to be some light snow, it's tough to pinpoint," he said. But what was expected to be about a half-inch of accumulation could be up to 2 inches in some parts of the DC metro area, he said.
Temperatures Tuesday are going to hold to between 28 to 33 degrees for much of the region, he said.
There are some reports of slick roadways. Drivers should be careful on the roads, he said.
Next up in the forecast for the area: Possible (60 percent chance) of snow Wednesday between 4-7 a.m. Expected accumulation is a half-inch.
