Monday Tornado Watch Expired for Falls Church, Surrounding Area

Area could also see heavy rainfall, flooding, National Weather Service warns.

UPDATE: The Tornado Watch expired Monday at 5 p.m.

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for much of the greater Washington area, including the City of Falls Church, Arlington, Fairfax, Prince William and Loudoun counties in Northern Virginia. The cities of Alexandria, Fairfax, Manassas and Manassas Park are also included.

A tornado watch means conditions exist that could produce a tornado. A tornado warning means a twister has been spotted.

The watch is in affect until 5 p.m. Monday.

The Capital Weather Gang reports a NWS forecast that includes a 30 percent chance of two or more tornadoes hitting the entire region under a Tornado Watch (it goes all the way up to New York and Pennsylvania) and a 20 percent chance of a large tornado.
