Annual Student Art Competition Theme: Faces of Falls Church

Winning works will be displayed at local gallery.

FIRSTfriday of Falls Church will celebrate the work of local artists with the 13th Annual Falls Church City Student Art Contest. All area students in grades K through12 who attend school (public or private) in Falls Church or reside in the City are welcome to submit.  

Entries must be delivered to your school's representative or directly to Art and Frame of Falls Church at 111 Park Ave.  The deadline is 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12. Judges will select 10 semi-finalist entries from each grade grouping (grades K-1, 2-5, 6-8, and 9-12) to display at the gallery space at Art and Frame of Falls Church. From those, 13 finalists will be chosen to be featured in the 2014 Student Art Contest Calendar.

The theme for the 13th Annual Falls Church City Student Art Contest is “Faces of Falls Church.” Contestants are asked to submit artwork that illustrates this theme. This can be interpreted literally, figuratively, or abstractly. "With this theme, traditional portraiture is not required, but we certainly welcome it if that is how you choose to interpret the theme!" organizers advise.

All contestants are invited to a gallery opening reception and awards ceremony Jan. 3, 2014 from 6-8 p.m. at Art and Frame of Falls Church regardless of whether or not their submission was chosen as a semi-finalist.
