Enjoy a lovely fall weekend with Stifel & Capra's October visiting artist, Creative Cauldron's musical review, a screening of Corpse Bride, 80s band The English Beat at State Theatre, the family-friendly Mutts n Munchkins fundraiser and the Virginia Chamber Orchestra's season opener.

October Visiting Artist at Stifel & Capra: Mary Brophy Marcus: In the Alcove Gallery on the second floor is Mary Brophy Marcus. A Fine Art and English major in college, Mary now works as a journalist by day and paints at night. Her influences are the artists who painted in France in the late 1800s and early 20th century, street/graffiti art, folk art from around the world and the sea.

Cole Porter: You're the Top!: Catch a performance of this musical review featuring Cole Porter standards like "Take Me Back to Manhattan" and "I Get a Kick Out of You." This original Creative Cauldron production follows Porter from Paris in the roaring '20s to Broadway and Hollywood's Golden Age. Sean Thompson (Edgar Allen Poe in the Cauldron’s critically-acclaimed Nevermore) and Helen Hayes Award-winner Carolyn Cole (Women of the Blues) star in this smashing season opener!

Corpse Bride: Catch a screening of Tim Burton's PG-rated family Halloween movie about a shy groom who can't get rid of a deceased young woman convinced that she's married to him after he accidentally practices his wedding vows in front of her grave. Mutts n Munchkins: This crafty kids' fundraiser features dancing dogs by Virginia Foxtrotters, a raffle sponsored by Dogma Bakery, an appearance by local celebrity K9 Fanny and his owner, a K9 massage therapy demo, live music, dogs for adoption and craft and activity tables. All proceeds from tickets ($1.00 = 1 ticket) support Service Dogs of Virginia.

Music Gems from France: Don't miss the opening concert of the Virginia Chamber Orchestra's 42nd season featuring Debussy's Danses Sacrée et Profane and works by Bizet, Fauré, Ravel, Tansman and Pierné.
