Day of Service in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day in Alexandria.

  1. HOPEworldwide Northern Virginia Chapter and the American Red Cross are partnering with local fire departments for the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service in Alexandria. Volunteers from Northern Virginia will distribute fire prevention materials to neighborhoods prone to house fires. Go to hopeworldwide.org for more information.
  2. The Planning Committee for the 2012 Falls Church City Memorial Day Parade and Festival seeks nominations for the Grand Marshal. Suggestions should be submitted to Jenny Paxton in the Recreation and Parks Department at jpaxton@fallschurchva.gov or 703-248-5199 (TTY 711).
  3. On this day in 1941, the War Department forms the first Army Air Corps squadron for black cadets.
  4. On this day in 2005, George W. Bush is inaugurated for his second term as President of the United States.
