Exxon-Mobil's 117-Acre Merrifield Campus for Sale, Post Reports

Could FBI be eyeing property for itself?

A huge chunk of land near Falls Church has gone on the market, according to The Washington Post.

Exxon-Mobil, which is moving its headquarters to Houston, is selling its 117-acre campus in Merrifield, the newspaper reported Sunday.

The land is situated near the Capital Beltway, Gallows Road and Route 50, near Inova Fairfax Hospital.

The property is assessed by Fairfax County at $201.3 million, which means about $2.2 million in property taxes to the county each year, FCEDA told the newspaper.

One possible client? The FBI, which has stipulated it needs to be no more than 2 miles away from a metro stop. The Dunn Loring Metro is 1.7 miles away. Other guidelines:

  • No more than 2.5 miles from the Beltway
  • Between 40-55 acres
