Five Things You Need to Know: Will Artley, Tobacco Harvest

It's Saturday and the Falls Church Farmer's Market is where the action is today.

1-    Falls Church Farmers Market Chef Demonstration with Will Artley of Pizzeria Orso: The Falls Church Farmers Market presents this chef demonstration featuring Pizzeria Orso's Will Artley. The chef will prepare two to three dishes over a two-hour period, answers questions and makes modifications as suggested by participants. Tastings and recipes are available throughout the morning.

2-    Volunteers who live in the City of Falls Church are needed to serve on the boards and commissions listed below. Contact the City Clerk’s Office (703-248-5014, cityclerk@fallschurchva.gov, or www.fallschurchva.gov/bc) for an application form or more information. Requests for appointments must also be made through the City Clerk. Applications are being accepted until the end of the month.

3-    The Recreation and Parks Department is seeking volunteers to call bingo on Wednesday mornings from 10 a.m. to noon at the Senior Center. Interested volunteers should call 703-248-5020 for more information and to sign up.

4-    Tobacco Harvest: Help the 18th century farm family at Claude Moore Colonial Farm clean the tobacco leaves, gather the cut plants and hang them on the tobacco sticks inside the tobacco barn to cure. This event is only $3 and perfect for the entire family!

5-    If you’re celebrating a birthday on Aug. 18, you share it with the late actor Patrick Swayze, baseball great and humanitarian Roberto Clemente and actor and producer Robert Redford. Happy birthday!
