Little City Gourmet Opening April 15

New café will feature breakfast, lunch and dinner to go or dine in.

Rachelle Slotnick always wanted a small, cute place to sell food from.

Come April 15 when she officially opens her Little City Gourmet (2121 N. Westmoreland St.), she will have it. The California-born Slotnick, 29, has been catering in Northern Virginia for three years and is now branching out to sell breakfast, lunch and dinner from her café.

“I’m very excited,” Slotnick said. “It’s been a unique experience opening a café. I’ve done everything wrong at least once.”

The café will open at 6 a.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. Slotnick said she would close at 8 p.m. each day. Customers will be able to get meals to go or dine in the café, and Slotnick said and there will be a tapas and beer menu for dinner. The packaged dinners to will be family-style size, she said.

With a love for Mediterranean food, Slotnick said she doesn’t want to serve her customers processed foods. She said there will be a selection of soups and sandwiches for lunch daily that customers can start buying in the morning on their way to work.

“It’s high-quality ingredients,” she said. “It’s not a specific niche restaurant.”
