Loehmann's Closing All Stores, Including Falls Church Area Location

Discount retailer was on the scene nationally for 93 years.

"Cute clothes at great prices" — that's just one of dozens of reviews of a Falls Church area department store that is falling by the wayside.

Loehmann's announced Thursday it's closing all of its stores, including one with a long history in the Falls Church area. In November, Loehmann’s tried to sell its business as a going concern, but was unable to secure meaningful bids, according to news reports. On Dec. 15, 2013, Loehmann’s filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection for the third time in its history.

The designer discount store located at 7271 Arlington Boulevard is one of 39 stores nationwide that will be closing in March. The shopping center is called Loehmann's Plaza. No word on if there will be a name change after March.

The department store, nationally, has been on the retail scene for the past 93 years, according to its Web site.

The Falls Church store has many devoted shoppers, if you count the online reviews, with comments like:

Victoria says: "I've been coming to the Falls Church location for a very long time, before they even upgraded and added it in the shoe store. Loehmann's is like an upscale Marshalls or TJ Maxx."

Emily says: "I am really lucky it's such a hike out to Falls Church or my credit card would probably melt after so much use at this place."

Cathy says: "I finally came to check out the Falls Church location and it's Awesome! It's so clean and organized!!!"

What are your memories of Loehmann's? Will you be shopping there for bargains before it closes?
