Curves Members Save Fitness Center in Falls Church

Seven women came together to buy a local Curves to prevent the women-only fitness center from closing.

When Linda Mason and some of her friends heard the West Broad Street Curves in Falls Church was going to close, they took action.

With the location slated to close last October, Mason and six other women started the process to buy the business. They just signed the final paperwork this week.

Friday, they held an open house for returning members and possible new ones.

“The previous owner has another business and she needed to sell this one,” Mason said Friday. “We didn’t want it to close.”

Members work out on a circuit of machines for 30 minutes, three days a week with 30 second recovery periods between each exercise station.

Mason, a Curves member since 2004, said the Falls Church location has about 160 members. Curves is only for women, and it is part of an international chain of fitness centers aimed at women's health.
