National retailer Stein Mart announced Tuesday its plans to locate a new store in the Falls Church area.

The new store will open in the former Loehmann's location, at 7271 Arlington Blvd. A news release from Stein Mart notes that it will open on May 15.

Loehmann's announced in January it was closing its stores nationwide, including the Falls Church store. The Loehmann's is now closed, according to the national Web site, after holding sales featuring deep discounts.

"Our focus on offering designer and national brands at discount prices every day continues to prove successful and has enabled us to put into motion our largest store opening plan in years," said Jay Stein, CEO of Stein Mart, in a news release.

"We understand that increasing our number of stores is an important part of our sales growth strategy, so this is significant news for us. We are fortunate to have a talented management team that identifies key locations in targeted growth areas, so we are always prepared to act when a prime location becomes available."

Stein Mart has more than 260 locations offering an assortment of current-season, brand name fashion apparel for women and men, accessories, home décor, linens and shoes. The company says it's prices are 60 percent off for brand name and specialty merchandise every day. For more information about Stein Mart visit www.steinmart.com.
