Construction Mishap Cuts Verizon Phone, Internet Service in Merrifield

Repairs could take days to complete.

An overnight construction mishap has left more than 1,000 Verizon landline customers in the Merrifield area without service today.

Harry Mitchell, a spokesman for Verizon, said contractors doing construction work near the intersection of Lee Highway and Gallows Road damaged three Verizon communications cables and the underground ducts they were in. Mitchell said there is no timeline for when landline and Internet customers will have their services restored. He said the process could take days to repair completely.

FiOS service, Mitchell said, was not affected.
