Five Things You Need to Know Today: Dec. 2

The weekend has arrived.

  1. Stormwater surveys are due today. Residents of single-family homes in the City of Falls Church received a mailed survey about stormwater management and the responses will help the Department of Public Works gain a better understanding of the drainage issues facing City residents. Respondents will need the Real Property Code provided in the mailing to complete the paper and Survey Monkey versions of the survey.
  2. Don't miss Breakfast with Santa at the Annual Holiday Craft Show this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., at the Falls Church Community Center. Santa and Mrs. Claus will pose for photos (be sure to bring a camera) and listen to each child's Christmas wish list. There will be finger foods for the kids, and juice and water for all. The cost is $5 per person (infants are free); pre-registration is recommended to ensure space! Activity code 220148-A. Register online, by phone (703-248-5027), or in person at the Community Center.
  3. On this day in 1971, the United Arab Emirates, (Trucial States) declares independence from the United Kingdom.
  4. On this day in 1997, the MCI Center, now the Verizon Center, opened in Washington D.C.
  5. If today is your birthday, you share it with Greenbay Packers quarterback Aaron Rogers (28-years-old) and entertainer Britney Spears (30-years-old). Happy birthday!
