Five Things You Need to Know Today: Feb. 16

The Mustangs are going for the Bull Run District championship tonight.

  1. The George Mason High boy’s basketball team will play against William Monroe at 7 p.m. in the Bull Run District Tournament championship game. The game will be held in the Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School gymnasium. 
  2. Businesses are invited to take part in the Business Electronics Recycling Event on Wednesday, March 21 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Recycling Center. eAsset Solutions is sponsoring the event, which offers free recycling for most items and charges a small fee to recycle certain items.   3. On this day in 1959, Fidel Castro named himself Cuba's premier after overthrowing Batista.
  4. On this day in 1968, the country's first 9-1-1 phone system went into service in Haleyville, Ala.
