  1. The Planning Committee for the 2012 Falls Church City Memorial Day Parade and Festival seeks nominations for the Grand Marshal. Suggestions should be submitted to Jenny Paxton in the Recreation and Parks Department at jpaxton@fallschurchva.gov or 703-248-5199 (TTY 711).
  2. The City of Falls Church Police Department is hosting an information session for city residents, business owners, and interested individuals to volunteer for the Crime Solvers Board. The session will be held Tuesday, Jan. 31, at 7:30 p.m., in the Dogwood Room in City Hall. 
  3. On this day in 1948, Executive Order 9981, to end segregation in U.S. Armed Forces, was signed.
  4. On this day in 1992, the Washington Redskins won Super Bowl XXVI 37-24 over the Buffalo Bills. Redskin quarterback Mark Rypien was named MVP of the game.
  5. If today is your birthday, you share it with activist Angela Davis (68-years-old) and comedienne Ellen DeGeneres (54-years-old). Happy birthday!
