Five Things You Need to Know Today: Nov. 1

Joint work session planned for tonight

  1. The City of Falls Church and Falls Church City Public Schools will hold a joint work session at 7:30 p.m. in the library inside Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School. The two sides will discuss the fiscal year 2013 budget.
  2. Library Story Hour for kids ages 18 to 36-months-old at the Mary Riley Styles Library at 10:30 a.m. 
  3. On this day in 1962, the Cuban missile crisis ends, John F. Kennedy says U.S.S.R. is dismantling missile bases.
  4. On this day in 1957, the world’s longest suspension bridge opens in Mackinac Straits, Michigan.
  5. If today is your birthday, you share it with golfer Gary Player (76-years-old) and magazine editor Larry Flynt (69-years-old). Happy birthday!
