Five Things You Need to Know Today: Nov. 11

It's Veterans Day!

  1. A special Veterans Day Ceremony will be held at the Falls Church City Veterans Memorial in front of the Community Center at 11 a.m. Local veterans Maj. General Richard Sherlock and Air Force Brigadier General Lyn Sherlock will offer remarks. A remembrance for MIAs and a wreath presentation and prayer for departed veterans will also be part of the ceremony.
  2. City Hall, the Mary Riley Styles Public Library, courts, Sheriffs office and the senior center will all be closed in observance of Veterans Day. FCCPS students do not have school but staff will have a professional day.
  3. On this day in 1972, U.S. Army turns over Long Bihn base to South Vietnamese army.
  4. On this day in 1997, the WNBA expanded to Detroit and Washington D.C.
  5. If today is your birthday, you share it with actress Demi Moore (49-years-old) and actor Leonardo DiCaprio (37-years-old). Happy birthday!
