Happy Thanksgiving!

  1. Here are the offices in the City of Falls Church that will be closed on Thanksgiving:  City Hall, DMV Select Office: CLOSED all day Nov. 24-25; Community Center: CLOSED Nov. 24, OPEN Nov. 25, 26 and 27; Courts, Sheriff’s Office: CLOSED all day Nov. 24-25; Mary Riley Styles Public Library: CLOSED all day Nov. 24 and 25, OPEN Nov. 26 and 27; Refuse and Recycling: Regular Pickup Nov. 23; Schools and Day Care: CLOSED Nov. 24 and 25.
  2. Cherry Hill Farmhouse will host a Civil War Thanksgiving on Nov. 26, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Visitors are welcome to stop by any time to experience Thanksgiving 1863, complete with reenactors, war-time conversation, and parlor entertainment. Admission is free; donations are appreciated.
  3. On this day in 1979, U.S. admits troops in Vietnam were exposed to the toxic Agent Orange.
  4. On this day in 1982, Orioles Cal Ripken is named AL Rookie of the Year.
  5. If today is your birthday, you share it with the 12th U.S. President Zachary Taylor (227-years-old) and Ragtime composer Scott Joplin (143-years-old). Happy birthday!
