Get Out: Patch's Pick-and-Choose Weekend Planner

If you're itching to make some awesome weekend plans, consult our list of best bets before you head out on the town.

It’s Thursday. The weekend is so close you can almost taste it. Downside? You’ve got no idea what to do during your two days of freedom.

Patch is coming to the rescue. We've picked out some of the best events around Fairfax County for your done-work-outta-here time. Is it 5 p.m. on Friday yet?

1. 

Find out what's happening in Falls Churchwith free, real-time updates from Patch.

Where/When: Northern Virgina Community College - Annandale Campus, 8333 Little River Turnpike, Annandale. Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Why Go: The National Capital Area Cake Show will feature live challenges, cupcake tastings and decorating demonstrations. This is a must-see event for all you Food Network Challenge lovers out there.

Pricing: General admission is $10 for one day or $15 for both days. Seniors, students and children can recieve discounted tickets.

2. 

Where/When: , 124 Park St. SE, Vienna. Saturday, 10 a.m. to noon.

Why Go: You'll be doing something good for your local and global community by helping "pacakge 50,000 dehydrated, high protein, highly nutritious meals for use in crisis situations and school feeding programs." The event is supporting, "Stop Hunger Now....an international hunger relief organization dedicated to end world hunger in our lifetime."

Pricing: Obviously, it's free to volunteer your time. They're counting on you!

3. 

Where/When: Williams Sonoma at , 1961 Chain Bridge Rd., McLean. Saturday, 10 a.m.

Why Go: According to the event listing, "If you struggle to get your toddlers, teenagers or mate to eat vegetables, this class is for you.  Saltandpepperchefs.com stars will educate, entertain and give out samples of foods including:  Quick Spinach Pie, Marvelous Mashed Cauliflower, Silky Smooth Sweet Potato Soup and Awesome Broiled Asparagus." Samples, yum!

Pricing: Advance $20 tickets are required to attend this event.

Where/When: Verizon Center, 601 F St. NW, Washington. Shows run Thursday through Sunday.

Why Go: Everyone has fond memories of going to the circus as a child - and children of all ages will surely "oooh" and "ahhh" during "The Greatest Show on Earth."

Pricing: Ticket prices range from $14 to over $100.

5. 

Where/When: , 905 Park Ave., Falls Church. Friday, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Why Go: During Lent, you're supposed to forgo meat on Fridays and opt for fish instead. At St. James', you'll get "fried fish, french fries, hush puppies, cole slaw and a drink." The church is encouraging the local community to "Come and be a part of the fun, fellowship and fish."

Pricing: Donations are accepted.
