Memorial Day Weekend Events in Northern Virginia

Memorial Day weekend celebrations Friday through Monday in Northern Virginia.

Memorial Day 2013—the unofficial kick-off for summer—is Monday, May 27, but concerts, fireworks and other events last all of Memorial Day weekend throughout Northern Virginia.

Here’s a round-up of what’s happening locally.

American Legion Riders Run to the Thunder 2013

The American Legion Riders, Post 177 in Fairfax will host its annual ALR Run to the Thunder 2013 in association with Rolling Thunder.  The ride raises awareness regarding those military veterans who may still be prisoners of war and/or missing in action and encourages the public and government to take action in their recovery. Funds raised will benefit the American Legion’s Legacy Scholarship Fund. Sunday, May 26, 7 a.m.

Memorial Day 5K Run/Walk to Honor the Fallen

Be sure to wear blue and join this 5K run/walk event to honor fallen service members at Rolling Valley Elementary School. The Circle of Remembrance will take place, followed by the 5K. Monday, May 27, 7:30 a.m.

Burke Memorial Day Parade

The Burke Memorial Day Parade will take place at the Burke Center Conservancy. Special guests include Congressman Gerry Connolly, U.S. Army service member Mark Little, and Elmer Saville. Monday, May 27, 10 a.m.

Leesburg Memorial Day Celebration

Join the Leesburg Town Council and the Memorial Day Host Committee for the annual Memorial Day Observance on Monday at the Loudoun County Courthouse in Leesburg. Leesburg VFW Post #1177, American Legion Post #181, and local musicians and re-enactors plan to attend. Monday, May 27, 9:30 a.m.

Vienna Memorial Day Observance

Vienna's American Legion will honor veterans in a ceremony at the Flint Hill Cemetery on Rte 123 (Chain Bridge Rd).   Speakers will include veterans and Vienna town officials.  The Vienna Town Band will perform.  Seating is limited; bring your own chair/blanket if you wish. Monday, May 27, 10 a.m.

32nd Annual Falls Church Memorial Day Parade and Festival

The City of Falls Church will host their annual parade and festival (300 Park Ave.) observing Memorial Day. Monday, May 27, 9 a.m.
