UPDATED: More Than 300 Dominion Power Customers Without Electric in NOVA

Strong thunderstorms left some people in Northern Virginia without electric.

UPDATE (12:32 p.m.): Power has returned to many of the customers previously affected by last night's storms. Dominion's outage viewer shows over 50 customers still waiting east of Fairfax City, most around Bailey's Crossroads and Alexandria.

As strong storms moved in Friday night, several power outages were reported throughout Northern Virginia.

LeHa Anderson, spokeswomen for Dominion Power, said about 350 customers along Interstate-66 from Fairfax City heading west are still without power. She said work crews estimate power should be restored to customers by 2 p.m.

“We had about 20,000 customers affected last night,” Anderson said. “Right now we have about 350 still without power. Our work crews have been working all night to fix this.”

At about 7 p.m., storms moved into Northern Virginia bringing lots of rain, thunder and lightning. Heather Sheffield, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, said there are no storms expected for today but there is a chance of storms tomorrow.

Temperatures will hover around 90 degrees in Northern Virginia, she said.
