What's your HAT?

When I saw the 2014 Grammy Awards and the talk about Pharrell Williams hat, I was delighted. Here was a man who had taken an almost normal item, made it his own, and created buzz for himself. How did he do it?

Pharrell connected to the item. This hat was a personal reminder to him about something he enjoyed from his past. That is the story as told to Ryan Seacrest.

Secondly, Pharrell acted on impulse. He did not plan on wearing the hat as part of his ensemble. Pharrell trusted his instinct.

Finally, Pharrell wore the hat in public in a crowd. There were going to be a countless number of eyes on him. But Pharrell was confident.

What's your HAT? The next time you head out the door, reach for a memorable item and wear it. You have already seen that your item does not need to match in color or theme to the rest of your outfit. Be confident that you are creating your own style. Let the buzz be about you.

If you follow me on Twitter, I tweeted that my HAT was a cranberry color pair of woolen flats that I wore with a navy and abstract blue dress. Several women gave me compliments on my outfit. Was it cute? Of course! Did it create a buzz? Of course!
