Five Things You Need to Know Today: Jan. 5

The weekend is almost here.

  1. A book discussion will be held at the Mary Riley Styles Library Thursday night at 7:30. The group will discuss "The Wednesday Letters" by Jason F. Wright. The Thursday Evening Book Discussion Group meets on the first Thursday evening of each month. Light refreshments will be served.
  2. Christmas trees are collected free of charge on Wednesdays in January and February. Place your Christmas tree at the curb after removing plastic bags, rope, and all decorations, including tinsel.
  3. On this day in 1959, "Bozo the Clown" live children's show premiered on TV.
  4. On this day in 1972, President Richard Nixon signed a bill for NASA to begin research on manned shuttle.
  5. If today is your birthday, you share it with actor Bradley Cooper (37-years-old) and actor Robert Duvall (81-years-old). Happy birthday!
