Restaurant payroll should not be a headache
Restaurant owners have enough to think about--staffing, attracting customers, managing vendors--without having to worry about sloppy payroll service.
If you're a restaurateur and have a nagging feeling that your payroll is too expensive and otherwise out of whack, reach out to a payroll provider. It's a lot less expensive than you think and if you choose the right payroll provider, you should receive online access to your own records and be able to run reports and receive free human resources functionality.
Joel Bernstein, principal at ECCA Payroll and Benefit Providers, says restaurant owners should not have to worry whether their payroll person is handling the complex rules surrounding employee payroll.
"Payroll is a commodity," Bernstein said. "With a company like ours, you get more than just simple payroll service. We give you 24/7 online access to your records so you can easily track where you're spending the most on payroll, which days, which hours, and run all kinds of reports that increase your business intelligence."
Another reason to hire a company like ECCA, Bernstein says, is to keep up with changes in tax law.
"Payroll tax law changes all the time and if you own restaurants in several jurisdictions, say Washington, D.C., Arlington, and Alexandria, you need a payroll company that updates its processes to keep up with those changes," Bernstein said.
"The district changed the way employees are taxed on their tips just this year. If your payroll provider didn't understand it, you could under-taxing each employee on your payroll."
