10 City of Falls Church Area Burglaries Have Police Looking for Answers

A handgun, jewelry and electronics were stolen from City of Falls Church area homes between Sept. 2 and Oct. 7.

A series of home burglaries has City of Falls Church and Arlington County police looking for those involved.

Police say there have been 10 home burglaries between Sept. 2 and Oct. 7 in city limits and in the East Falls Church area, which lies in Arlington County. The burglaries occur between 6 p.m. and 3 a.m. and in one case, the residents were home when the burglars broke in.

“The people who were home didn’t see the burglars,” said Major Mary Gavin, deputy chief of the city’s police force.

It’s unknown how many alleged suspects are involved in the burglaries. Police believe the burglars have targeted homes without alarm systems and are unoccupied. The alleged suspects have gotten into the homes through unlocked doors or in some cases, they have kicked in doors with double deadbolt locks, police said. Checks, jewelry, laptops, iPods and a handgun have been stolen during the burglaries. Gavin said no one has attempted to use any of the checks as of yet.

Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority Police are also involved in the investigation, Gavin said. She said residents should lock their doors and windows at all times. She said residents should make sure their home alarm systems are in proper working order and activated.
