No injuries were reported.

Update, 8:50 p.m.

Dan Schmidt, a spokesman for the Fairfax County Fire Department, said firefighters were able to extinguish this "fairly small" apartment fire within about 10 minutes on scene. The fire originated in a second floor unit of the three-story apartment building, at 3409 Carlin Springs Rd.

Light smoke spread to the building's stairwell and to nearby units, but the fire was contained to only one apartment.
