Eden Center Shooting Victim: 'A Very Good Person'

Vietnamese chamber president said Saturday's victim was a musician.

The Vietnamese community is still trying to piece together the weekend shooting deaths of two men.

Monday, Binh Nguyen, president of the Vietnamese-American Chamber of Commerce of Greater Washington, D.C., said one of the victims, identified by the Washington Post as Tai Phan, 51, of Annandale, was a good person. He said Phan was a musician and a computer programmer.

The City of Falls Church has not released the names of the victims as they are trying to notify the families of the deceased.

“The shooting is very unfortunate,” Nguyen said. “It’s important the public knows this was not gang-related. The victim was a very good person.”

Saturday night around 10 p.m., City of Falls Church police responded to the shootings in the and found one man shot and laying on the ground. According to a release from the city, that man was pronounced dead at the scene. A second man was also found dead at the scene, according to the release. Susan Finarelli, spokeswoman for the city, said police are still investigating the shootings.

Nguyen said the Eden Center has been under scrutiny since last year’s raid. , conducted by the Northern Virginia Regional Gang Task Force in August, raided businesses in the Eden Center, allegedly breaking up an illegal gambling ring. Several of the people arrested in the raid . The Eden Center is a shopping area full of culture, shops and restaurants.

“The Eden Center hasn’t really gotten back on its feet yet after that,” Nguyen said. “It’s really, really unfortunate.”
