Falls Church Driver Reportedly Loses Control of Car; Passenger, 103, Dies Following Car Crash

Fairfax County detectives continue to investigate the incident.

Police say a Falls Church woman, 81, apparently lost control of her car Monday, crashing and leaving a passenger, a 103-year-old McLean woman, dead.

The McLean woman died Monday following the car crash at the intersection of Old Dominion Drive and Dolley Madison Boulevard in McLean, according to Fairfax County Police.

At about 3 p.m. Monday, a 2001 Toyota Sienna was traveling north on Dolley Madison, according to the Fairfax County Police Department. It was driven by the 81-year-old Falls Church woman, and Katie Grosse, 103, of McLean, was riding in the front passenger seat.

The driver of the Sienna apparently lost control while attempting to turn right onto Old Dominion, according to police. The car jumped the median on Old Dominion, struck a 2008 Audi sedan and then struck a 2008 Toyota Camry, according to police.

Both occupants of the Sienna were taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital. Grosse was pronounced dead at about 6:15 p.m.

Police have not identified the driver of the Sienna or the occupants of the two vehicles it struck.

Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, authorities said. Detectives have not yet determined whether speed played a role.

The investigation is ongoing.
