Falls Church Man Arrested After Stabbing Someone in His Home

Police said the alleged victim charged the man with malicious wounding after the man stabbed the victim and disconnected a telephone to police.

A 67-year-old Falls Church man was arrested Thursday and charged with malicious wounding and malicious prevention of emergency communication.

Police said John M. Schmelzer stabbed an unidentified person inside his home in the 200 block of N. Maple Ave. and disconnected the phone when the alleged victim tried calling 9-1-1. According to a press release, police were able to trace the interrupted phone call to Schmelzer’s home.

When police arrived at Schmelzer’s home, they found him arguing with the unidentified victim.

The alleged victim was treated and released from a local hospital.

Bail information for Schmelzer was not immediately available Tuesday evening.
