McLean Man Hospitalized After Bicycle-SUV Collision in Falls Church

Fairfax County Police continue to investigate the crash. Man suffered non-life threatening injuries.

A McLean cyclist remains hospitalized after he collided with an SUV in Falls Church Wednesday night.

The 33-year-old man was riding his bicycle along Peabody Drive heading into oncoming traffic around 9:30 p.m. when collided with a 2004 Chevy Tahoe driven by 49-year-old Falls Church man, Fairfax County Police said. The two made contact when the SUV made a right hand turn onto Peabody Drive from Griffith Road.

The cyclist was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police continue to investigate the crash. The cyclist was not wearing a reflective vest and his bicycle did not have lights.

Charges have not yet been filed in the case.

Police said collisions between vehicles and cyclists in Fairfax County increased in 2012 from 2011 with 54 such collisions including one fatality. That was up from 44 accidents between bicyclists and vehicles with no fatalities in 2011.
