Police Arrest Fugitive in 2002 Eden Center Double Shooting

Suspect was arrested in Georgia after someone tipped off police.

City of Falls Church Police announced Tuesday the arrest of Long Duc Tran who was wanted for attempted murder from a 2002 double shooting at the Eden Center, in the 6700 block of Wilson Blvd. 

Tran, 38, was arrested July 11 in McDonough, Ga. after local police received a tip. He was charged by local authorities as a fugitive from justice and ordered held with no bond pending extradition back to the City of Falls Church.

On July 21, City of Falls Church Police officers took custody of Tran from the Henry County Jail. He was then transported back to Virginia and appeared before the on-duty magistrate for a bond hearing. Tran is currently being held at the Arlington County Adult Detention Center with no bond pending a preliminary hearing date Sept. 4.

About the 2002 Shooting
On Oct. 30, 2002, at approximately 5:30 p.m., City of Falls Church Police responded to a café for a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers secured the scene and located two victims inside the business suffering from gunshot wounds. Fairfax County Police and Arlington County Police also responded and provided assistance.

The first victim, a male, was suffering from a gunshot wound to his shoulder and buttocks area. The second victim, a female, was suffering from a gunshot wound to her chest area and was unresponsive. Officers on scene performed emergency first aid and vitals were re-established. Both individuals were transported to INOVA Fairfax Hospital Emergency Room for treatment and subsequently recovered.

As a result of investigation, Tran was quickly identified as the shooter and a warrant was obtained charging him initially with one count of attempt murder.
