Police Log: Abduction Stopped by Bystander

The Falls Church police department supplied the following incident and arrest information. If an arrest is mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

A bystander may have prevented an abduction Thursday, Falls Church City Police reported.

Police said a woman and her young son were walking along the 200 block of S. Washington Street and as the child played with sticks, a homeless man walked toward the boy. As mother and child walked closer toward the 46-year-old man, he moved closer to the boy until a bystander stepped between the man and the boy, according to a police report.

The man was charged with attempted abduction and public drunkenness.
